Quadron – Better Off (feat. Kendrick Lamar)
Quadron, the Danish duo of Rhye‘s Robin Hannibal and Coco O., are set to release their new album, Avalanche, on June 4 via Culture / Epic Records. Today, they’ve shared a new jazzy, rainy night jam featuring none other than Kendrick Lamar, “Better Off.” Here’s how they described it:
We only have one feature on our new album, and we are elated that it’s Kendrick Lamar. He invited us to collaborate on his own album, and we had such a great time working with him that we asked him if he wanted to be part of our project as well. We are so happy for all his success and we are very proud of this song. We wanted to have more of a fluid song that wasn’t too over structured and had a bit of a bedroom/after hours vibe to it.

Renting Out: Macklemore’s “I-N-D-E-P-E-N-D-E-N-T” Musical

Selling out in the music industry is a classic, oft-debated issue. In most instances, I see bands or artists accused of selling out when their music makes it out of the fabled “underground” and into the mainstream. Many fans (myself included) sometimes get worried that one of their favorite artists will become a standard, major-label pop product once under the commercial spotlight. A band or artist making it “big” is not enough of a reason to say it or he/she has sold out, though.
The Lonely Island – SEMICOLON (feat. Solange)
It’s Wednesday, and that means a new material from The Lonely Island. This time around they’re working with Solange Knowles and Maya Rudolph (who voices the teacher) for an attempted lesson in grammatically correct rap, “SEMICOLON.” Get ready for a whale of a time: Shamu, with the lyric video below, and find The Wack Album out June 11.

Pharrell Williams – Happy
Cuter than a room full of Gru’s minions, “Happy” is the first of three original songs recorded by Pharrell Williams for the upcoming Despicable Me sequel. The recent Daft Punk and Robin Thicke collaborator helped score the film’s soundtrack alongside composer Heitor Pereira, and has even linked up with Cee Lo Green for “Scream,” another of the album’s yet-to-be released tracks. The bundle of joy that is “Happy” will arrive with the full Despicable Me 2 soundtrack on June 18 (everything comes out June 18), with the movie hitting theaters on July 3.
Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof. Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth. Clap along if you know what happiness is to you. Clap along if that’s what you feel you want to do.
