Fool’s Gold has been on a roll lately, backing huge releases from Tommy Trash, Just Blaze, lead man A-Trak, and today, 2013’s electronica duo of destiny, Oliver. I’ve been patiently waiting through samplers and previews for over a month now, so to say I’m happy the Mechanical EP is out in full would be a massive understatement. Let’s run down the tracks for this glorious piece of music:
01. MYB – This is the EP’s call to arms. It
invites urges forces you to move your body in a way you haven’t experienced since Daft Punk and Justice were in their prime. Instant classic.
02. Night Is On My Mind – For my personal favorite, Oliver takes their the foot off the dance pedal a bit for a night-riding 80s pulsation that will have you thinking Kavinsky’s “Nightcall” (but darker) while reenacting a scene from Grand Theft Auto. Utterly badass.
03. Control – Where do I begin with “Control?” This track combines pieces of both “MYB” and “Night Is On My Mind” for a complete takeover of ecstatic, sporadic, and exhilarating electro. At this point, Oliver have complete control, control, control…
04. Mechanical – Closing things out is the title track, “Mechanical.” If there was ever an anthem to ride off into the sunset with, this is it. A perfect way to close out the EP. Pure synth bliss.
As “the beating heart inside the dance machine,” U-Tern and Oligee are leading an electronica renaissance with a new age twist, and their Mechanical EP is a true testament to their god-like ability. Find what will surely be one of the year’s best releases out now on iTunes or Beatport.
