So after doing a little research on this “ID” that Avicii dropped right before “Levels” in his Ultra Set, I’ve come to find out that the vocals are actually provided by the beautiful Irish singer/songwriter Ruth-Anne Cunningham (or her stage name RuthAnne). Most notably, she was behind the lyrics for JoJo’s “Too Little Too Late,” and had a hand in tracks from Leona Lewis, Katharine McPhee, and Labrynth to name a few others. Despite being the most crucial element of this incredible song, she’s remained fairly unmentioned on a lot of blog posts and hasn’t really received much credit behind the extensive shadow of a new Avicii tune.
As for the instrumentation of the track itself, it’s not exactly the first sound you’d think of when talking about vintage Avicii. Only the vocal accompanied portion is based off his classic piano chord progression, while the remainder of the track is fueled by a stream of high powered electro arpeggios, very reminiscent of David Guetta & Afrojack’s “Lunar.” Besides the surprise attack from Madonna, this was easily one of the bigger highlights from Ultra 2012, so expect “All You Need Is Love” (or whatever it may eventually be titled) to be one of the biggest anthems of the summer.
